2012 Meetings & Events Calendar

Our monthly business meetings are held at the River Vale Community Center, 628 Rivervale Road, Rivervale NJ  07675 at intersection of River Vale Road and Prospect Road, behind the Firehouse. From Jan. 2012-June 2012, we will meet on the 2nd Sunday (usually) of the month from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. In Fall 2012, we will begin holding meetings on the 2nd Thursday from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m. When in doubt, please check the calendar.

"Climate Mama & a Conversation about Climate Change"

A family-friendly discussion of climate change--what it is, how we can discuss it with our children and families, and what we can do about it. Wyckoff resident Harriet Shugarman is a mother of two, an economist, a trained presenter for Al Gore's The Climate Project and presenter for 24 Hours of Reality recently aired on Lifetime TV. Shugarman will lead a slide presentation and answer questions. All ages welcome! 

No sitter? Bring the kids! While Climate Mama presents, children (ages 5+) can make a recycled art craft aboard the Fun Bus, a school bus converted into art studio by YouGottaHaveArt.org. If bringing kids, reservations are requested. email: info@pascacksustainabilitygroup.org. 


 350.org's "Ride for the Planet" - Sat. Sept. 24, 2011

Great ride - great day! We rode an easy, 8-mile bike ride through the Pascack Valley towns as part of 350.org's global awareness event for climate change solutions. We started at Cycsport in Park Ridge (across from the train station) and pedaled through Park Ridge, Hillsdale, Woodcliff Lake, Washington Township & Westwood & River Vale. Worldwide Expert on Climate Change Speaks at BCC

Thurs. Sept. 22, 2011 - 7:30 p.m.

Dr. James Hansen, considered the world's foremost authority and outspoken expert on the science of climate change, provided a fascinating and informative talk, "Climate Change or Just Mother Nature Acting Out?" This free lecture was presented by North Jersey Public Policy Network, with volunteers from Pascack Sustainability Group lending a hand. It was Free admission and open to the public.


Jan. 9, 2011   Nearly 75 people came to hear guest speaker, Greg Mattison, of The Climate Project. Greg gave an authoritative update & Q&A on climate change and offered common-sense, practical solutions we can all embrace.


"Greening Your Home & Yard with Water Conservation" - Speakers, Rain barrel demo, Rain garden & green roof talks, Film on Water Conservation. FREE Westwood Public Library, 49 Park Ave. Westwood NJ  Co-presented with Bergen SWAN.  

Oct. 10, 2010 10:10 Work Party & National Alternative Fuel Vehicle Odyssey Day. Speakers, refreshments, prizes to those who arrived in an alternate fuel vehicle or form of transportation.


Dec 12, 2010 - Guest Speaker: Jeana Wirtenberg, Ph.D, President & CEO, Transitioning to Green, an organization dedicated to helping people in transition find a job in the new, sustainable economy. Jeana also founded and runs "Transitioning to Green Foundation" which helps military veterans train for and find jobs in the green business sector.

Special thanks to the Township of River Vale for the use of the Community Center.
